Rakta (brasil, Iron Lung Records) "Straight from the depths of São Paulo, Brazil, Rakta is a band too wild to be caged inside familiar rock labels. In fact, very little is familiar, or comfortable in Rakta’s music and general stance. On the road since 2012, the group, formed only by women, had as an initial inspiration the musical freedom and policy of the 70s/80s anarchist and post-punk scene, especially towards the “antiphilosophies” from the British collective Crass. After this initial impetus, they soon found their own identity, pushing the creative barriers, without interest in playing sounds or pre-defined ideas of one or another subgenre. I.e., a completely punk modus operandi, but without any reverence for rules and standards aesthetic-musical. The unique, rough and psychedelic sound, followed by instinctive and free perfomances by its members, make Rakta’s message disseminate throughout the world."
Giant Drag (vs, Drag City Records) De Amerikaanse band Giant Drag is het geesteskind van zangeres en gitarist Annie Hardy. De dromerige indierock van de band wordt weleens vergeleken met de muziek van My Bloody Valentine, PJ Harvey en Mazzy Star. De band ging lange tijd als duo door het leven, maar bestaat naast Hardy tegenwoordig uit bassist Alvin DeGuzman en drummer Bobby Vega. In januari komt Giant Drag na het memorable debuut Hearts and Unicorns van alweer dertien jaar geleden met een nieuwe plaat op Drag City.
Deutsche Ashram (nl) Deutsche Ashram is de band van Merinde Verbeek (Mineral Beings) en Ajay Saggar (King Champion Sounds). Het duo bracht in 2016 ‘Deeper And Deeper’ uit, een album dat met veel lof omarmd werd door de Nederlandse (en Europese) underground-scene. Het elektronische shoegaze-geluid op het album gaat van ruw en industrieel a la My Bloody Valentine in openingstrack ‘Little Matter’ naar subtieler, dromeriger en mysterieuzer materiaal als ‘Blue And All Of (Carbon Monoxide)’ of ‘The Place That We Miss’. J Mascis van Dinosaur Jr. en Warren Ellis van Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds zijn fan van de spannende muziek die Deutsche Ashram creëert. In 2020 verschijnt opvolger 'Whipser Om', volgens de band zelf te omschrijven als een neopop opus.
