Nate Mercereau + Karen Willems
NATE MERCEREAU
“I call him a magician,” André 3000 said each night on the New Blue Sun live tour, introducing Nate Mercereau—a guitarist whose instrument “almost never sounds like a guitar.” Using a travel rig of guitar, synth, sampler, pedalboard, laptop, aerophones, and percussion, Nate samples his surroundings in real time, playing life.”
A multi-instrumentalist, producer, songwriter, and composer, Mercereau blends traditional and experimental approaches to explore boundless creative and spiritual possibilities. His collaborations span André 3000, The Weeknd, Jay-Z, Kamasi Washington, Leon Bridges, Sheila E., Ledisi, Jennifer Hudson, Raphael Saadiq, Lizzo, No I.D., John Legend, Jon Batiste, and even The Golden Gate Bridge. His solo and collaborative releases—Joy Techniques, SUNDAYS, Excellent Traveler (Third Man Records), and albums with Carlos Niño, Josh Johnson (Blue Note Records), Sam Gendel, Idris Ackamoor, and Surya Botofasina—showcase his genre-defying vision.
“The threads that tie it all together,” Nate says, “are exploration, freedom, creativity, discovery, openness, emotional depth, curiosity, listening, infinite possibility… It’s about ‘going there’ and reporting back.”
This upcoming run marks Nate Mercereau’s first solo Europe and UK tour, an exciting step in sharing his expansive, exploratory sound with new audiences.
