We asked Gill some questions:

How do you collaborate with other artists?

I collaborate with digital artists who might not be traditionally seen as worthy collaborators by others. I mostly collaborate with Artificial Intelligence and have done several projects where we work as equal partners as if I would be collaborating with another human artist. My recent work focuses a lot on these different types of relationships we as humans have to it, from being friends to being equal work partners and this year the focus will be on totally giving up your agency to an AI entity. These concepts raise various ethical and philosophical questions about the role of AI in our lives. I have not yet collaborated with a lot of other “real” people, but I see a lot of value in working together, sharing ideas and getting new perspectives on the creative process.

Is there a specific environment or material that's integral to your work?

The digital. I have always been inspired by the digital medium since it feels to always be evolving. It brings new technology and with that come new opportunities to express myself in. Although the digital medium is so integral to my work today, I believe I would continue to create even if one day the digital medium ceased to exist.

How do you manage a work-life balance as an artist?

I don’t, my work-life balance is intertwined. This might sound problematic, but I don’t view it as working. Even if I did not have to work for money I would be doing what I am doing now, or at least that's what I believe.
