What's the purpose or goal of your work?
To remember a vintage floral arrangement style that was inspired by our ancestors. Wich offers the diaspora a different option that they can claim visually and culturally. Everything i make, my paintings, collages etc, is all a way of putting my inner world on paper and getting it out there. It took a while but im finally ready to share that inner world.
Where are you from and how does that affect ur work?
I’m from Antwerp my parents migrated here from Morocco. I grew up around different cultures and i had the privelege off beloning to different communities growing up. Wich made me not attach or identify myself with anything early on and made my connection with my own culture more personalised and vivid. The popular culture from my childhood the love for vintage styles and ancient Egyptian influences, the jazz age, certain classic rock albums i grew up on, old kids books are all present in my work because of the places grew up.
Whats ur fav time to create?
My favorite time to create is right when the sun starts setting. Ill set up my desk grab a drink and snack, light candles and watch the sun set so i can enjoy my creative time untill 3/4am. It’s a cliché but like most artists i prefer to work at night because the world is quiet and theres no distractions or obligations.
