We asked Anisa a few questions

Where do you find inspiration?
I find inspiration with colors. Bringing colors together is such a pleasure and it brings me great satisfaction. I love using them and mostly I begin anything with the choice of colors. Luckily colors are everywhere :)

When is your favorite time of day to create?
In the morning when I am having breakfast, when it is actually not morning anymore.

Which art tends to inspire your current work?
Charlotte Salomon’s art. I am glad to have remembered her because of this question, sometimes I forget what influenced me. Her work is made up of a story ‘Leben oder theater’. The story is about her life. It is not always clear what is happening because images and timelines are morphing into each other. Her drawings are sometimes like a comic and sometimes like a painting. A lot of the drawings are influenced by her desires. So what is drawn is not reality but what she wants reality to be. I don’t know if that was true for her but sometimes it is true for me.

What do you expect to learn from a residency at het bos?
I am learning a lot from working together with a beautiful friend. With our residency Klara and I intend to create with the freedom of a child. I am learning to let go of expectations and control.

And this is what Klara had to say...

How do you develop your art skills?
A big foundation on which I was able to build my skills, is school. Throughout my whole school career I attended Waldorf School, where a large part of the curriculum is focussed around art, creation and old or traditional crafting techniques. Besides having this great base, I do a lot of self study and honestly just a lot of trial and error.

Where do you find inspiration?
I think anything could inspire me depending on how I feel. From the top of my head, what inspires me most, are other people, colours, objects, landscapes and nature. For me, the most intense way to be inspired, might be traveling, as it is a way where all the things I just summed up are combined, and all impressions are new and unknown.

Tell us about your favorite medium.
For now, I think that any kind of animal wool, is my favorite medium to work with. I’ve loved working with wool since a very young age, and it is one of the few things that I’ve been consistent with throughout my life, so I expect to learn a great deal more about it in many years to come. There are endless possibilities with wool and it’s something that has been used by humans for a very long time. There are many different kinds of wool and each has it’s own qualities and characterisics. What might amaze me most about wool and it’s history, is how different cultures throughout the world have used it and how it is such a big part of their traditions and heritage.

Describe your ideal working environment.
My ideal working environment is a space filled by natural light, where I have the freedom to completely spread myself out, as well as my things, without needing to take anyone else into account. It’s a space where I listen to my favourite music and can completely dissapear for a whole day without being bothered or interrupted by anyone. Dreaming this idea up to the next level, this space would be a barn surrounded by green hills and forests.
