"This residence is an audiovisual research in communication & accompaniment in music. As a preliminary investigation and one of the first steps in the creation process of a ‘cellphone novel’ themed opera by Bent Von Bent; Sjoerd Leijten & Von Bent will research the possibilities of creating visual scores as well as designing a communicative and interactive lay-out. These scores could function as a visual navigation for improvising, performing musicians and singers. An attempt to organically enhance communication between musicians and music itself."

Sjoerd: "Unnoticed pointlesness can be very meaningful – especially in a time of social media self-promotion. At the same time noticing is extremely important. So the point is that it is all about listening and not necessarily talking. "

Do something boring
Sjoerd: "Doing boring things is an adventure. In music it is extremely important to do boring things. If you keep on repeating a seemingly boring thing, it sometimes loses the boring aspect (often not)."

Bent: "Forgetting is the most difficult aspect of doing something important."
Look at the order in which you do things
Sjoerd: "I always tune my guitar after the concert."
JENNY HOLZER ‘Truisms’ 1983
‘Truisms’ zijn een paar honderd uitspraken van politieke, sociale, filosofische of moralistische aard. Soms zijn het 'open deuren', soms geven zij stof tot nadenken. De uitspraken zijn niet de persoonlijke meningen van Holzer. Sommige uitspraken of opvattingen zijn tegenstrijdig, maar samen geven ze een afspiegeling van de werkelijkheid. Holzer zegt: "Ik dacht dat het geheel een redelijk betrouwbaar portret zou kunnen zijn van de manier waarop de dingen zijn in de wereld, omdat al deze tegenstrijdige meningen tegelijkertijd bestaan".
Brian Eno & Peter Schmidt - Oblique Strategies (1975)
Brian Eno, Peter Schmidt en David Bowie hadden ook wel eens dipje. Eno en Schmidt ontwikkelden hiervoor het kaartspel "Oblique Strategies" en Bowie voegde er later een paar kaarten aan toe. De kaarten bevatten teksten speciaal voor musici om blokkades te doorbreken en lateraal denken te stimuleren.
