Maya Al Khaldi - مايا الخالدي

Maya Al Khaldi is an artist, musician and composer from Palestine, based in Jerusalem. Maya’s work explores voice and the music of the past and present, working with archival materials to imagine the future. Her debut album "عالم تاني - Other World" is inspired by Palestinian folklore, influenced by the present, to imagine a sonic future. All songs include either lyrics, melodies, or recordings from the audio archive of the traditional Palestinian music of the Popular Art Center in Ramallah, Palestine.

Sarouna - سارونا

Sarouna is a Jerusalem-born Palestinian qanun player, audio engineer, producer and DJ. She is also the founder of Tawleef, an independent women-led Palestinian record label and artist space. She played, produced, mixed & mastered the album, “عالم تاني - Other World”. She is currently working on her first album, an electronic exploration of memory through sampling and qanun. She is also working on an all-female collaborative music project, featuring local and diasporic Palestinian artists.

Other World - عالم تاني

The album is inspired by Palestinian folklore, influenced by the present, to imagine a sonic future. All songs include either lyrics, melodies, or recordings from the audio archive of the traditional Palestinian music of the Popular Art Center in Ramallah. The singing and composition of Maya Al-Khaldi is influenced by different western music styles, but in this album Maya learns and practices Palestinian traditional music, arriving at a new vocal expression of her own, which is in constant flux. In this album, Maya Al Khaldi uses repetition and layering of melodies, sounds, and lyrics in songs as a way to reclaim and re-interpret folkloric music.

Alexis Degrenier and Radwan Ghazi Moumneh’s worlds collide.

Creating a collaborative body of work, where we are deconstructing rhythm and meter from the opposing ends of each others musical heritage and constructing, re-constructing and writing new compositions.

Alexis Degrenier's work is anchored in melodic rhythms that are delicately assembled to echo the minute and fragile at times, and the roaring and abrasive at others. Wed to melismatic vocalizations from Radwan Ghazi Moumneh and electronic compositions for Buzuk, Dvina and synthesizer, the two composers plan on diving deep into the realm of collaboration.
