Sharing Sessions with Hussein Shikha, Smila Zinecker, Che Go Eun & Noam Youngrak Son
Noam Youngrak Son is a communication designer practicing queer publishing. In their work, Son explores revolutionary methods of disseminating deviant narratives. They attempt to convey the voices of marginalized bodies, which often include that of themself, into designed forms that do not conform to the cis-hetero-normative and colonial power structure.
Smila Zinecker is a costume maker and artist based in Antwerp, having lived before in the UK, France and Germany. In 2021 she finished her studies at KASKA with a master in theater costume, and since then has worked in several theater projects as costume maker. Parallelly, she has continued her research within a residency in Groningen (NL) and the ADMA program at Sint Lucas Antwerp.
Trained in Korean traditional painting, Che Go Eun makes digital collages, sculptures, drawings, paintings and zines inspired by folktales, religious iconography, and cyberculture. In her practice, she looks at how different cultures try to shape impulses, fetishes, and stereotypes. She received her BA in Visual Arts from Sejong University in Seoul and her MA from MaHKU, Utrecht. She is a 2018 HISK laureate. Hussein Shikha is a multidisciplinary artist, graphic designer, writer, and researcher. His work entails experimental film, animation, textile and interactive installations. Hussein takes the manipulation and transformation of the southern Iraqi carpet (with all its philosophies) as a starting point to understand design from Eastern and non-Eastern perspectives. In so doing, he examines possible shifts towards more inclusive and less Eurocentric perceptions of design. Hussein was born and raised in Iraq and moved to Antwerp in 2009 where he is currently based. He holds a Master’s degree in Visual Arts from the Royal Academy of Fine Arts Antwerp and an Advanced Master’s degree of Research in Art and Design at Sint Lucas Antwerp.
